Having an MCP server is no longer rare. The useful question is which first-party servers can **draft, schedule, or publish** social posts from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another MCP client, and how they differ on auth, tool depth, human confirm, and plan access.

## Short answer

Count only first-party MCP servers whose docs let an assistant create a draft, schedule a post, or publish through that vendor's product. **DunSocial**, **Buffer**, **Hootsuite (Perch)**, **Typefully**, and **Postiz** all document a publishing path. Sprout's official remote MCP is TikTok insights, not posting. Later has no first-party MCP page we could find. Publer's MCP is beta and gated to top ambassadors and Enterprise.

## What "can publish" means here

An MCP server is a list of tools an assistant can call. This page only marks **Publishes via MCP = Yes** when the vendor documents that an assistant can create a draft, schedule a post, or publish through that vendor's own product.

That bar excludes:

- Insights-only or analytics-only MCP (read post performance, not create posts)
- Third-party community wrappers that call a vendor API without being the vendor's official server
- Marketing pages that say "AI" without documenting MCP tools that write to the calendar

Having an MCP server is not a differentiator by itself. Buffer, Hootsuite, Typefully, Postiz, Sprout Social, and DunSocial all ship one. What still differs is publish vs read, plan, auth, tool depth, and whether a human confirms before live.

Posts created over MCP are tagged with an **MCP source** in the app. They appear on the same calendar a human opens in the browser.

### Buffer

MCP is on every plan, including Free. Claude and ChatGPT can connect with a Buffer sign-in. The [developer guide](https://developers.buffer.com/guides/integrations/mcp.html) uses `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp` with an API key and Bearer header. Both paths are first-party.

Tool count is not published. Documented work: draft, schedule, manage the queue, save ideas, check channels. Agent output lands in the Buffer queue; Buffer says you remain the last step.

Pricing on 2026-09-06: Free USD 0 (3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel); Essentials from USD 6 per channel per month. Buffer does not support Reddit.

### Hootsuite

Hootsuite ships several first-party MCP servers. **Perch** is publishing (`https://mcp.hootsuite.com/perch`). **Nest** is inbox. **Lumen** is listening. **Parliament** is employee advocacy. Sign in with your Hootsuite workspace; you need access to that product.

Perch sample prompts include schedule and publish now. The site also says human review remains part of approval. Nest is inbox MCP, not the publishing path this page scores. Tool count is not published.

### Typefully

Endpoint: `https://mcp.typefully.com/mcp`. As of 2026-09-06, auth is **OAuth** for chat clients. Headless clients can still send a Bearer API key. Older key-in-URL setups keep working; Typefully recommends the plain URL plus OAuth.

Documented work: create, edit, schedule, and manage drafts across X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon, plus queue, media, tags, and accounts. Tool count not published. Draft, schedule, and publish-now paths are documented.

### Postiz

Postiz documents **11** MCP tools (accounts, schemas, schedule/publish, list/update posts, plus image/video generation helpers). Auth: API key in URL or Bearer; OAuth tokens (`pos_`) also work. Self-hosted instances swap the host.

`schedulePostTool` accepts `draft`, `schedule`, or `now`. Immediate publish is first-class; confirm is on you if you ask for a draft instead. MCP cannot read or reply to comments today. Hosted Standard is USD 29/mo for 5 channels; self-host is free.

## Not (or not yet) a publishing MCP

### Sprout Social

Sprout has a first-party remote MCP at `https://mcp.sproutsocial.com/mcp` (auth required). Vendor ChatGPT setup copy limits it to **TikTok published insights and post performance**. OAuth. Official support is ChatGPT only. Not a publishing path. Community wrappers are not Sprout.

### Later

No first-party MCP page on later.com found on 2026-09-06. Later Influence has a Reporting API for campaign metrics, not a social publishing MCP. Third-party wrappers are not Later.

### Publer

Publer ships a first-party MCP in beta. Help article updated **14 August 2026** limits it to top ambassadors and Enterprise. Setup: API key, then a generated MCP URL. Example prompts include draft and schedule LinkedIn. Tool count and confirm-before-publish are not documented.

## How to choose

When you already live in an MCP client:

1. **Can it publish?** Insights-only MCP fails the job.
2. **Auth.** Prefer browser OAuth. API keys in URLs leak more easily into configs.
3. **Confirm before publish.** DunSocial and Buffer lean on a human last step. Postiz and Hootsuite Perch document immediate publish.
4. **Tool depth.** DunSocial documents 47. Postiz documents 11. Most others leave the count unpublished.
5. **One calendar.** Prefer a server that writes into the same drafts you open in the web app.
6. **Plan shape.** Free MCP (Buffer) or base USD 20 (DunSocial) differs from Enterprise-gated beta (Publer) or a Social OS seat (Hootsuite).
