# Do you have to label AI-written social posts in 2026? > Not for AI-written captions you review. Labels apply to realistic AI images, video & audio, & EU text rules exempt human-reviewed posts. - Published: 2026-10-19 - Last updated: 2026-10-19 - Author: Sanju (Founder & CEO @ DunSocial) - Topics: ai, tips --- No, you don't have to label an AI-written caption that you reviewed & approved. The label rules target realistic AI-generated or AI-altered media (images, video, audio), not text that a person edited & published. The exceptions are narrow: text about matters of public interest published with no human review under the EU AI Act, & anything that looks like a real person, place or event that never existed. ## What the EU AI Act asks of you Article 50 of the EU AI Act has applied since 2 August 2026. For publishers, it asks for clear labels on two things: deepfakes, & AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest. The European Commission's FAQ says text that has gone through human review or editorial control does not need a label. A spell-check or grammar pass doesn't count as that review. A normal brand post, a product update or a founder story is neither a deepfake nor public-interest reporting. If a person approved it, there's nothing to label under Article 50. This is general information, not legal advice. ## What each platform requires Platform rules are separate from the law, & they focus on realistic media. - **YouTube:** disclose realistic content that is AI-generated or meaningfully altered, such as a real person saying something they didn't. YouTube lists scripts, titles, thumbnails & caption creation as production assistance that needs no disclosure. - **TikTok:** label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video. TikTok can also add its own label automatically. - **Instagram, Facebook & Threads:** Meta shows an "AI info" label when it detects industry-standard AI signals in a file or when someone self-discloses. Every one of these is about what the media shows, not which tool wrote your caption. ## When you do need a label Label the post when the media could be mistaken for real: - An AI-generated photo of your product in a place it was never shot. - A realistic video or voice of a real person saying something they didn't say. - Altered footage of a real event or location. Put the disclosure where people see it, such as the first line of the caption, & use the platform's own AI toggle where the app offers one. ## Where scheduled posts fit Using a scheduler doesn't change any of this. The rule follows the content, not the publishing method, so a post queued for next week needs the same label as one posted today. The practical step is to decide at the moment you add media. If an image or video is realistic AI output, mention it in the caption before you schedule. ## How DunSocial fits DunSocial's AI drafts captions in your brand voice, & nothing publishes until you confirm it. That human review is the part both the platforms & the EU text rule care about. DunSocial doesn't generate images or video. You upload your own media, so you stay in control of what needs a disclosure. YouTube lists caption creation & script help as production assistance, & the EU text rule exempts human-reviewed posts. Label realistic AI media instead. ### Do I need to label an AI-generated product photo? If it looks like a real photo of something that didn't happen, yes. Add a clear line in the caption & use the platform's AI toggle where the app offers one. ### Does an AI label reduce my reach? TikTok says turning on its AI-generated content setting won't affect distribution if the content follows its guidelines. Undisclosed realistic AI content is the bigger risk. ### Do I need to label posts I only scheduled with AI help? No. Planning, drafting or queuing with AI isn't what triggers a label. Realistic AI-generated or AI-altered media is. ## Sources - [European Commission: Transparency obligations under Article 50 of the AI Act (FAQ)](https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/faqs/transparency-obligations-under-article-50-ai-act) - [European Commission: Transparency obligations for AI providers and deployers](https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/guidelines-ai-transparency-obligations) - [YouTube Help: Disclosing use of GenAI content](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/14328491) - [TikTok Support: AI-generated content](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/creating-videos/ai-generated-content) - [Meta Transparency Center: Labeling AI content](https://transparency.meta.com/governance/tracking-impact/labeling-ai-content/) --- ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/blog/do-you-have-to-label-ai-written-social-posts.
