# How to Switch from Buffer to DunSocial with MCP (No Missed Posts) > Switch from Buffer to DunSocial without missing posts: dump your queue to Markdown with Buffer MCP, recreate it with DunSocial MCP, test one prompt, then che… - Published: 2026-09-06 - Last updated: 2026-09-06 - Author: Sanju (Founder & CEO @ DunSocial) - Topics: mcp, migration --- You already live in Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor. Buffer has an official MCP server. DunSocial has one too. That means you can switch from Buffer to DunSocial without missing posts by treating migration as an agent-to-agent handoff you can review: dump the queue to Markdown with Buffer MCP, recreate drafts with DunSocial MCP, test one small prompt yourself, then check the calendar the next day. This guide is for solo founders, indie makers, and small teams who want the schedule moved cleanly from the same chat they already work in. The Buffer MCP to Markdown to DunSocial MCP path is the supported cutover: reviewable drafts, human confirm, then a next-day calendar check. Start a [14-day free trial](https://app.dunsocial.com/login) when you are ready to connect accounts and run the test. ## The smart path: Buffer MCP → Markdown → DunSocial MCP There is no silent black-box import here, and that is the point. You get a reviewable Markdown dump, a test run, and human confirmation before anything goes live. The path looks like this: 1. **Connect Buffer’s official MCP** at `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp` in Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor. Buffer documents the integration in their [MCP guide](https://developers.buffer.com/guides/integrations/mcp.html). 2. **Ask the assistant to dump the upcoming queue** (and any drafts you care about) into Markdown files. One post per file works well: channel, scheduled time, body, media notes, thread order if needed. 3. **Connect DunSocial MCP** at `https://api.dunsocial.com/api/mcp` in the same client. DunSocial’s hosted MCP ships **47 tools** and is included in the plan. See [DunSocial MCP](/mcp) for the endpoint and scope details. 4. **Point the assistant at those Markdown files** and ask it to create drafts and schedules through DunSocial. Keep human confirm on before publish. 5. **Run a small test prompt yourself** (one or two posts), open the app, then check the calendar the next day before you deepen the cutover. MCP plus Markdown is the intentional path: agent does the heavy lift, you keep the gates. If you want the side-by-side context first, skim [DunSocial vs Buffer](/compare/dunsocial-vs-buffer) or the [Buffer alternative page](/alternatives/buffer), then come back here for the move. ## Who this guide is for (30 seconds) This cutover is for solo founders, indie makers, and small teams whose live Buffer queue sits on networks DunSocial covers: **X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit, Pinterest, and YouTube Shorts** (TikTok in limited beta). A human confirms before publish. **Price while you overlap:** USD 20/mo or USD 192/yr, with a 14-day free trial, 1 seat in the base plan, and extra seats at $8/mo. Full detail lives on [pricing](/pricing). **MCP:** 47 tools, included. Endpoint: `https://api.dunsocial.com/api/mcp`. If your Buffer queue is mostly on those overlapping founder networks, keep going. Buffer remains strong when you want its free tier, community inbox, or Facebook and Mastodon coverage as the center of your stack; this guide assumes you are moving the overlapping calendar into DunSocial. ## Setup (once) Do these four steps once. After that, the prompts below reuse the same connectors. ### Connect Buffer MCP In your AI client, add a custom MCP connector pointed at `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp`. Complete Buffer OAuth when prompted. Confirm the assistant can list your connected channels and see the scheduled queue. Buffer’s official notes are in the [Buffer MCP docs](https://developers.buffer.com/guides/integrations/mcp.html). Tool names can vary by client; verify what your assistant actually exposes before you trust a bulk dump. ### Start DunSocial and connect accounts [Log in or start the trial](https://app.dunsocial.com/login), then connect the overlapping networks in the DunSocial app first. MCP needs those accounts in place before it can create drafts against the right channels. ### Connect DunSocial MCP In DunSocial, open Settings → MCP and add `https://api.dunsocial.com/api/mcp`. Approve the workspace scopes your assistant needs. Posts created through MCP are tagged with source “MCP” in the app, which makes the migration trail easy to audit. Details and tool coverage are on the [MCP page](/mcp). Prefer the CLI? The same workspace also works with the [DunSocial CLI](/cli). ### Save brand voice Before you bulk-recreate, set AI Memory and a Voice Preset. The test prompt should prove voice and scheduling, not just that a draft appeared. Recreated posts stay closer to how you actually write when Memory and Voice are in place first. ## Migration checklist Work the list in order. The test step and the next-day check are what keep you from double-posts and gaps. ### 1. Dump Buffer queue to Markdown With Buffer MCP connected, paste **Prompt A** from the section below. Ask for the next 14 days (or whatever window covers your live schedule). Aim for a folder like `./buffer-export/` with one Markdown file per post: channel, ISO scheduled time, body text, media URLs or “needs re-upload,” and thread order if applicable. Do not delete or edit anything in Buffer during the dump. Verify Buffer MCP tool names in-client. Buffer does not always publish a fixed tool list, so confirm list/schedule tools are available before you run the full export. ### 2. Review the Markdown (human gate) Skim every file. Keep, drop, or rewrite. Prioritize posts on networks DunSocial covers (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok beta). Leave Buffer-only calendar items on Buffer if you still want them there. Note media that needs a fresh upload into DunSocial. This is your first real gate: the assistant exported the queue; you decide what is worth recreating. ### 3. Test the prompt (before the full queue) Paste **Prompt B**. It should create drafts for the first two posts only, match channel and time as closely as DunSocial supports, and tell you exactly what to open in the app. Do not publish yet. Open DunSocial, review those drafts, and confirm the schedule looks right. This is the trust step most checklists skip. If the test fails, fix voice, media, or channel mapping before you scale. ### 4. Recreate the rest via DunSocial MCP When the test looks good, paste **Prompt C**. Prefer draft plus schedule over publish-now. Attach media through DunSocial’s media flow when URLs alone are not enough. Recreate posts for platforms DunSocial covers. Keep human confirmation on. Ask the assistant for a short summary of what it created and what it left on Buffer. ### 5. Pick a handover date and avoid doubles Choose a cutover day. New work lands in DunSocial from that point. Cancel the matching Buffer items that should not fire. A short overlap is fine if you are deliberate about which calendar owns each post. ### 6. Check the next day The morning after: open the DunSocial calendar (and Buffer if it is still live). Confirm yesterday’s test or early cutover posts went out once, previews matched, and nothing failed silently. Only then deepen the cutover. This next-day check is the easy proof that the MCP path worked. ### 7. Cancel Buffer last After the next-day check passes and the DunSocial calendar matches your intent, disconnect or cancel Buffer. Export any Buffer analytics you still want to keep. Cancelling earlier is how people create gaps. ## Copy-paste prompts Use these as written. Adjust the date window or folder name if you need to, but keep the “drafts first / no publish without confirmation” constraints. Remember: Buffer MCP tool names should be verified in-client, because Buffer does not always publish a fixed tool list. ### Prompt A: Dump Buffer queue to Markdown ``` Using Buffer MCP, list my connected channels and every scheduled post for the next 14 days. For each post write a Markdown file in `./buffer-export/` with channel, scheduled time (ISO), body text, media URLs or “needs re-upload”, and thread order if applicable. Do not delete or edit anything in Buffer. ``` ### Prompt B: Test migrate one or two posts ``` Using DunSocial MCP and the files in `./buffer-export/`, take the first two posts only. Create drafts in my DunSocial workspace (do not publish now). Match channel and time as closely as supported. Tag or note source as migrated-from-Buffer. Then tell me exactly what to open in the DunSocial app to review. ``` ### Prompt C: Migrate the rest after test passes ``` Using DunSocial MCP and every file in `./buffer-export/`, create drafts (prefer draft + schedule over publish-now). Match channel and time for platforms DunSocial covers (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, TikTok beta). Summarize what you created and what you left for Buffer. Do not publish without my confirmation. ``` ## Common mistakes - **Skipping the test prompt** and dumping the whole queue blind into DunSocial. - **Publishing from MCP** without human confirm. Keep confirm on until you trust the mapping. - **Leaving the same post scheduled in Buffer and DunSocial.** That is how you get doubles. - **Recreating every Buffer post blindly** instead of prioritizing overlapping networks in the Markdown review. - **Cancelling Buffer before the next-day check.** Finish the proof, then cancel. ## After the switch Once the calendar is yours again, DunSocial is set up for how founders already work: Daily Ideas for the next posts, Memory and Voice Presets so drafts stay on-brand, and MCP so you can ship from Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor without bouncing into five tabs. The same 47 MCP tools that helped you migrate stay available for everyday drafting and scheduling. If you have not started yet, open the [trial](https://app.dunsocial.com/login), connect your overlapping accounts, and run Prompt A through C in order. Pricing and seat details are on [pricing](/pricing). Broader product questions live in the [FAQ](/faq). ## FAQ **Can I import Buffer’s queue automatically?** Yes, in a reviewable way: Buffer MCP → Markdown → DunSocial MCP. That is agent-to-agent migration with human gates, not a silent CSV black box. **Do I need to copy-paste every post by hand?** No. The assistant does the heavy lift through MCP. You review the Markdown dump, run the test prompt, and confirm drafts in the DunSocial app. **When do I cancel Buffer?** After the test prompt looks right and the next-day calendar check passes. Cancel matching Buffer items on the handover date so nothing double-posts, then cancel Buffer last. **Is MCP included?** Yes. DunSocial MCP includes 47 tools and is part of the plan. Endpoint: `https://api.dunsocial.com/api/mcp`. See [DunSocial MCP](/mcp). **Can I review AI or MCP posts before they go live?** Yes. Human confirmation before publish is how DunSocial works. Prefer creating drafts (and scheduled drafts) during migration, then approve in the app. --- ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/blog/switch-from-buffer-to-dunsocial.
