# What character limits does the DunSocial API enforce? > X is 280 characters (25,000 with Premium), Bluesky 300, Threads 500, LinkedIn 3,000, Instagram 2,200, TikTok 2,200, Pinterest 800, Discord 2,000, Slack 4,000, YouTube 5,000, Reddit 40,000 & Facebook Pages 63,206. Validate before you send. Updated: 2026-10-05. ## The limits on `content` The API checks the length of `content` against each target platform. These are the limits it applies: | Platform | Limit | |----------|-------| | X | 280, or 25,000 when the connected account is X Premium | | Bluesky | 300 | | Threads | 500 | | LinkedIn | 3,000 | | Instagram | 2,200 (the caption in `metadata.instagram` is also capped at 2,200) | | TikTok | 2,200 | | Facebook Pages | 63,206 (images only, no `metadata.facebook`) | | Pinterest | 800 (the description is also 800, the title 100) | | YouTube | 5,000 for the description (title 100, handled separately) | | Reddit | 40,000 (the title is capped at 300) | | Discord | 2,000 | | Slack | 4,000 | ## How they're enforced When you schedule to several accounts at once, DunSocial checks every one. If any account's text is too long, the whole request fails & no posts are created. That's why one over-length target, such as 283 characters going to X, blocks the entire batch. ## One text, many platforms Writing a single post for every platform means it must fit the shortest one. For X, Bluesky & Threads together, that's 280. If you want a longer version on LinkedIn, send separate requests with different content for each platform. ## Pinterest & Reddit have more than one limit A Pin has a title limit of 100 & a description limit of 800. A Reddit post has a 300-character title & a 40,000-character body. The text field you send & the platform option can each have their own cap, so check both. DunSocial reports each limit as its own issue, so you can tell a long title from a long description. ## Check before you send Call the validate route with the payload. It reports a `content_length` issue naming the account & how far over you are, such as 283 out of 280. DunSocial's CLI, SDK & MCP all run the same check, so a script catches the problem whichever way it posts. ## Limits change Platforms revise their limits, & X's Premium allowance depends on the connected account. Treat the validate response as the source of truth rather than hard-coding numbers in your own code. DunSocial's API applies the current rules at request time, so its answer is the one to trust if an article, including this one, falls behind. ## Related guides - [How to validate a social post before scheduling it with the API](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-api-and-sdk-guides/how-to-validate-a-social-post-before-scheduling-it-with-the-api.md) - [What platform options does the DunSocial API require?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-api-and-sdk-guides/what-platform-options-does-the-dunsocial-api-require.md) - [How long should a social media post be?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-content-creation/how-long-should-a-social-media-post-be.md) - [How to repurpose one piece of content across platforms](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-content-creation/how-to-repurpose-one-piece-of-content-across-platforms.md) ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-api-and-sdk-guides/what-character-limits-does-the-dunsocial-api-enforce.
