# How to give an AI assistant your brand memory through MCP

> Use list_collections to see memory collections, create_collection if none exist, then save_memory or save_memories_batch for facts. search_memory finds them by meaning. Memory writes need memory:write, & the workspace voice is set separately with update_personalization.

## Memory is how an assistant learns your facts

An assistant that knows nothing about your business writes generic posts. DunSocial's memory holds the facts it should use: what you sell, who it's for, phrases you like & claims you avoid.

Through MCP, an assistant can both read & write that memory.

## The memory tools

| `update_memory` | Change a memory's text |
| `delete_memory` | Remove a memory |

## Start with collections

`list_collections` only reads, so it never creates defaults for you. If the list is empty, the assistant should call `create_collection` first.

Collections keep topics apart, for example product facts in one & voice notes in another. Only the creator can change or delete a collection, & default collections can't be deleted.

## Saving what matters

Save short, specific facts rather than long essays. One memory per idea is easier to search & easier to correct later.

When you have a list to load in one go, such as a set of FAQs, `save_memories_batch` is faster than many single saves.

Anything saved through MCP lands in the same DunSocial memory you see in the web app, so a person can review & correct it there.

## Searching by meaning

`search_memory` finds memories by meaning rather than exact words. An assistant can ask for "pricing" & surface a memory worded as "plans & seats."

That means it can pull the right facts at draft time without you pasting them into every conversation.

DunSocial runs the search across collections, so the assistant doesn't need the whole memory pasted into its prompt.

## Permissions to expect

Saving & updating memories needs `memory:write`. Deleting a memory, or a collection, also needs `content:delete`.

Setting the workspace-wide AI voice is separate. `get_personalization` reads it & `update_personalization` changes it, but only owners & admins can change it, & it needs `workspace:write`.

DunSocial's consent screen lists these scopes, so you can see before approving whether memory writes are included.

## A sensible habit

Ask the assistant to read memory before it drafts, & to save new facts you confirm. Then review the memories now & then in DunSocial, because a wrong fact saved once will quietly appear in future posts.

Memory shapes what an assistant writes. It doesn't replace reading the post before it goes live.
