# How to publish a Pinterest Pin with an AI assistant > List social accounts for the Pinterest id, list or create a board, upload exactly one image with the upload URL tools, then call publish_pinterest_now with the board, title, description & that image. Never treat a saved draft as a published Pin. Updated: 2026-10-05. ## Why Pinterest needs its own flow A Pin isn't a normal post. It needs a board, a title, a description & exactly one image. DunSocial's MCP has dedicated tools for it so an assistant doesn't have to guess. ## Step 1: find the Pinterest account Ask the assistant to call `list_social_accounts` & note the Pinterest account's id. It will need that id for every later step. ## Step 2: pick a real board Call `list_pinterest_boards` to fetch the boards for that account. Use a real board id, not a board name the assistant made up. If the account has no boards, `create_pinterest_board` makes one. It takes a `name` & an optional privacy setting of public or secret, & needs write access to the workspace. ## Step 3: upload one image Pins take exactly one image. The assistant gets a presigned upload URL with `get_upload_url`, uploads the image bytes to it, then confirms with `complete_upload`. Images can be up to 8 MB. The confirmed asset gives a media path the Pin will use. DunSocial keeps the confirmed image in the workspace gallery, so you can reuse it for another Pin later. ## Step 4: publish the Pin Call `publish_pinterest_now` with the account id, board id, title, description & the single media entry: ```json { "socialAccountId": "ACCOUNT_ID", "boardId": "1234567890", "boardName": "Landing page", "title": "Core Flows landing page", "description": "Product UI still from the DunSocial landing page", "link": "https://dunsocial.com", "mediaUrls": ["media/uploads/landing-core-flows.png"] } ``` To schedule instead of publishing now, use `schedule_pinterest_post` with a time. The generic `publish_now` also works if `metadata.pinterest` carries the same board & text fields. ## The limits to remember A Pin title can be up to 100 characters & a description up to 800. Check these with `validate_post` first, so a long description doesn't fail at publish time. An assistant should also never claim a Pin is live unless the tool returned a queued or published result. A draft that opens the web composer card isn't a publish. DunSocial's validation reports these limits per account, which is why running it before publishing saves a failed attempt. ## Saving a Pin as a draft If you want to review the Pin in DunSocial first, ask for a draft with `selectedPlatforms` set to Pinterest, plus the board, title & description. It then appears in the web composer for you to finish. That's a useful default for a new assistant: let it prepare the Pin, then publish from the app once it looks right. ## Related guides - [What can an AI assistant do with DunSocial MCP tools?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-mcp-guides/what-can-an-ai-assistant-do-with-dunsocial-mcp-tools.md) - [How should an AI assistant validate a post before publishing?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-mcp-guides/how-should-an-ai-assistant-validate-a-post-before-publishing.md) - [Pinterest marketing strategy guide](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-platform-guides/pinterest-marketing-strategy-guide.md) - [Why can't my AI assistant publish through DunSocial MCP?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-mcp-guides/why-cant-my-ai-assistant-publish-through-dunsocial-mcp.md) ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/dunsocial-mcp-guides/how-to-publish-a-pinterest-pin-with-an-ai-assistant.
