# How to measure employee advocacy > Measure outcomes that matter, such as referral traffic, inbound conversations & reach to new audiences, not just who posted. Use each platform's own insights for personal accounts, & avoid turning measurement into surveillance. Updated: 2026-10-05. ## Start with the goal Advocacy can aim at different things: reach, hiring, leads, credibility. Decide which matters before looking at numbers, or you'll collect a lot of data without a conclusion. A goal like "more qualified applicants from our network" points at a very different measure from "more demo requests." ## Measures that tend to be useful - Referral traffic from personal posts to your site, using tagged links - Inbound messages or replies mentioning a post - Reach & engagement on posts about the company - New followers or connections among your target audience - Anecdotal signals: "I saw your post" in sales or hiring conversations None of these is perfect alone. Together they give a reasonable picture. ## Measures that mislead Counting how many employees posted says nothing about whether it helped. Totalling every employee's followers as "potential reach" overstates what really happens, since only a fraction see any post. Likes alone are easy to collect & hard to link to outcomes. Treat them as a mood signal, not a result. ## Where the data lives Personal-account insights belong to the individual & the platform. You can't pull another person's analytics without their consent, & you shouldn't need to. Ask willing participants to share screenshots or a short summary monthly instead of building a tracking system. DunSocial doesn't reach into personal accounts to pull this data, & shouldn't. Each person's insights stay with them unless they choose to share. ## What DunSocial can & can't show DunSocial's analytics dashboard covers X, Bluesky & Pinterest. For LinkedIn, Instagram & other networks, you'll use each platform's own insights. It can help with the planning side: its calendar shows which accounts posted what & when, which makes it easier to match a spike in your own web analytics to a specific post. ## Don't turn it into monitoring Publishing leaderboards or tying results to reviews undermines the voluntary nature that makes advocacy work. People stop posting honestly when every post is scored. Aggregate the findings: "posts about customer stories brought the most inbound replies" is useful & doesn't point at individuals. DunSocial's dashboard is built the same way for the company's own accounts: trends across posts, not rankings of people. ## Closing the loop Every quarter, summarise what you learned: which topics led to conversations, which formats people enjoyed & what you'll change. Share it with participants so they see their effort was useful. DunSocial doesn't attribute revenue to a post, so be honest about what you can & can't prove, & rely on a handful of consistent signals instead of one headline figure. ## Related guides - [What social media metrics actually matter?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-analytics/what-social-media-metrics-actually-matter.md) - [How to measure social media engagement](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-analytics/how-to-measure-social-media-engagement.md) - [What is employee advocacy on social media?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/employee-advocacy-and-personal-branding/what-is-employee-advocacy-on-social-media.md) - [How to create a social media report](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-analytics/how-to-create-a-social-media-report.md) ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/employee-advocacy-and-personal-branding/how-to-measure-employee-advocacy.
