# Can ChatGPT or Claude post directly to social media?

## Why neither one does this natively

ChatGPT & Claude are conversational assistants. Neither ships with a built-in way to hold a social media account's credentials or call a platform's publishing API directly, since that would mean the assistant itself managing OAuth tokens per user per platform, which isn't what either product is built to do.

What actually enables posting is a separate service that handles the real connection to each social platform, & exposes a way for the assistant to call it. MCP is the current standard way that connection gets made.

## How the actual connection works

A service like DunSocial holds the real OAuth connections to each social platform on the user's behalf. It exposes an MCP server that Claude, ChatGPT, or another compatible client can connect to.

Once connected, a request typed into the assistant, "draft a post about our new feature & schedule it for tomorrow", gets translated into calls against that MCP server, which does the actual drafting & scheduling against the real connected accounts.

The assistant itself never holds the platform credentials directly. It's calling a tool that already has them, through a connection the user set up once.

## What this actually looks like from a conversation

Someone asks Claude or ChatGPT to draft a launch announcement & schedule it. The assistant writes the draft, then calls the connected MCP server's scheduling tool with the content & the time. The post lands on the same calendar a person would see logging into the web app directly, tagged as having come from an AI source.

That tag is what keeps a DunSocial workspace's calendar honest about which posts a person wrote & which an assistant drafted.

## What still needs a person

A model calling a scheduling tool doesn't mean the post publishes unreviewed. A draft can be wrong about a fact, an assistant can misjudge a good time, & nothing about the MCP connection removes the value of a person checking the draft before it actually goes live.

DunSocial keeps drafting & publishing as separate, explicit steps regardless of whether a draft came from a person typing in the browser or an assistant calling MCP, so a Claude- or ChatGPT-originated post still sits on the calendar for review rather than skipping that check.

## Setting this up

Connecting Claude or ChatGPT to DunSocial means adding DunSocial's hosted MCP server as a connector in that client's settings, then authorising it against a specific DunSocial workspace.

Once connected, the assistant can draft, schedule & publish across every platform that workspace has connected, X, LinkedIn, Instagram & the rest, without a separate integration per platform on top of the MCP connection itself.
