# Social media approval workflow > A social media approval workflow is the review step between a draft & it going live, so a post is checked by a person before it publishes rather than the moment it is written. Updated: 2026-09-17. ## Why an approval step exists A draft & a published post are not the same thing. An approval workflow is whatever sits between them: someone reading the draft, checking it fits the brand & the platform, & deciding it's ready before it schedules or goes live. Without one, a draft can turn into a published post by accident, or without anyone catching a mistake first. ## What it actually needs - A clear draft state, separate from scheduled & published - Someone with the ability to approve, reject or edit before it moves forward - Visibility into who wrote it & who reviewed it - A record of what changed between draft & final version, at least informally For a solo account this can be as simple as a personal habit: never schedule the moment a draft is finished, read it again first. For a team, it usually needs to be a real state a post moves through, not just a convention people are trusted to follow. ## Why this matters more with AI drafting AI-written drafts raise the stakes on this step, not lower them. A model can write something factually wrong, off-tone, or accidentally on-brand for the wrong audience, all while reading fluently enough that a fast skim misses it. DunSocial keeps drafting & publishing as two separate, explicit actions for this reason. An AI-written draft, whether created in the app or scheduled through its MCP server by an assistant like Claude or ChatGPT, sits in draft or scheduled state until a person has had the chance to see it, not published the instant it's generated. ## What to check for in a tool - Does a draft ever auto-publish without an explicit schedule or publish action - Can you tell, after the fact, whether a post was AI-drafted or human-written - Is there a way to edit a draft before it goes live, not only approve or reject it - Does the review step work the same way regardless of which platform the post is going to DunSocial tags posts by their source, human draft, AI draft or MCP-scheduled, so a reviewer can see which posts need a closer read & which are routine. ## For teams specifically Once more than one person can post, a workflow needs to name who can approve, not just that approval happens. DunSocial's workspace roles, owner, admin & member, exist to make that explicit rather than relying on everyone remembering to check with each other informally. ## Related guides - [What does a social media manager do?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-management/what-does-a-social-media-manager-do.md) - [How AI can help with social media management](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-management/how-ai-helps-with-social-media-management.md) - [Can AI schedule social media posts?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-scheduler/can-ai-schedule-social-media-posts.md) - [What is a social media management tool?](https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-management/what-is-a-social-media-management-tool.md) ## About this document This is the Markdown representation of https://www.dunsocial.com/hub/social-media-management/social-media-approval-workflow.
