# What is a social media scheduler?

> A social media scheduler is software that lets you write a post now & have it publish automatically at a chosen time later, without you needing to be online when it goes out.

## What it does

- Holds a queue of posts with a set publish time for each
- Publishes automatically when that time arrives

## What it doesn't do on its own

A scheduler assumes the post is already written & ready. It doesn't decide what to post, write the copy, or adapt one idea into a version for each platform.

## How the queue actually works

1. A draft is finished & ready to go out
2. You pick a publish time for it
3. The scheduler holds it until that time
4. At that time, it posts automatically
5. Its status updates from scheduled to published
